The watercolor print captures the essence of the first winners of the Kentucky Derby, Aristides and jockey Oliver Lewis. Against a background of a vibrant wall of red roses, the artwork brings to life the historic moment of their victory. Created by Aimee Griffith, the official artist of the Kentucky Derby, this print beautifully portrays the grace and strength of Aristides as he races towards the finish line, guided by the skilled jockey Oliver Lewis.
Because of the time period, the original photo was in black and white so Aimee had to rely on written accounts of the colors of the jockey and the horse to get it just right.
