Experience a captivating watercolor artwork that immortalizes the historic moment when Regret, the first-ever female champion of the Kentucky Derby, claimed victory. The artwork showcases a vibrant tapestry of wildflowers in full bloom, meticulously rendered in a kaleidoscope of mesmerizing pink and purple shades. This vibrant and dynamic backdrop pays homage to the feminine.

It is worth noting that this print is a true testament to the artist's dedication and meticulous attention to detail. As the historic race unfolded in 1915, a time when photography was limited to monochromatic hues, the artist, Aimee Griffith, relied on the written accounts and historical records to recreate this momentous event. Aimee Griffith was the official artist of the Kentucky Derby.

Regret's victory brought an avalanche of newspaper coverage to Churchill Downs' signature race. Her victory against males was a turning point in elevating the race’s popularity nationwide, and since then the Kentucky Derby has enjoyed a prestige equal to any sporting event in the world.

Years later, Winn (owner at the time of the Churchill Downs racetrack) reflected on that day: "The race needed only a victory by Regret to create some more coast-to-coast publicity to really put it over. She did not fail us. Regret made the Kentucky Derby an American institution."

Immerse yourself in the beauty and energy of Regret's triumphant journey through this watercolor print.
